SAP recruiters asking for 3 professional references
Written by admin on December 3rd, 2008If they ask too early, alarm bells should be ringing
Please enable Javascript and Flash to view this Viddler video.Seriously, when a recruiter asks you for references in advance of an interview or an offer - they’re basically trying to take advantage of you. Don’t provide this information until you are good and sure the recruiter is reputable.
This was taken from my online SAP training course Breaking Into SAP - I hope you find this useful!

CONFIDENTIAL ONLY.
Greetings.
It has been brought to our attention that your firm is using the name “SAP Recruiters” both in its’ website as well as in other venues of advertising. Our firm, “SAP Recruiters” has a registered trademark/service mark “SAP Recruiters”. Our firm is a corporation, utilizes the domain name and website - http://www.saprecruiters.com and is recognized by consumers as such. We prominantly use “SAP Recruiters” on advertising, promotional material, print advertisements, product brochures as well.
We are aware of some instances of confusion regarding your organization’s use of “SAP Recruiters” and are concerned that your company’s further use of “SAP Recruiters” will continue to confuse consumers into thinking your company is affiliated with or sponsored by us.
Because of our proprietary rights in this name and trademark, we politely request that your company take immediate steps to cease and desist all promotions, advertisement and use of “SAP Recruiters” or anything else confusingly similar to our “SAP Recruiters” mark.

hi,
all i know is that SAP cookbook is deffinately different from SAP recruiters. they should take a chill pill, the market is big for everyone.
in a nut shell, jim has not done anjy of such that SAP recruiters at putting on the table.
29
AM
Jim: Don’t worry.
They will do nothing.
Has no sense sue your company for such a fine interpretation of a CAPITAL letter: R or r.
SAP Recruiters is a brand, and SAP recruiters are people searching for SAP consultant resources.
The law is made for important things, not for such stupid case.
My regards.
Guillermo.

This registered trade mark thing is getting too ridiculous! Apple does not want anybody to use anything that looks like apples.. did they discover apples? Cadbury does not want anybody using the color purple, Virgin think they own the word…anyway, if SAP recruiters are so sensitive of using such a generic term to be thinking that they are THE people being talked about, then they probably are guilty… just a thought…
29
AM
Dear Jim,
The term “SAP Recruiter” is a general one which everybody can use (in my opinion)in everyday language.
It is the problem of the company “SAP Recruiters” to use such a name as company name. With this company name they must have been aware right from the start of their operations that confusions could arise.
I wonder how someone can get a trademark on such a common term.
Well, USA is different from Germany. I even heard that Donald Trump would like to have a trademark on the sentence “You’re fired” (which is ridiculous).
Best regards
Ralf from Germany

That SAP recruiters is proprietry does not mean these words cannot be used or made reference to. I hope distinction between referring to it and claiming to own it are understood as 2 different things. What Jim is saying is timely and appropriate
29
AM
Hi
I think jim is doing good job,and regarding references i think i want to tell you, please don’t take employees by reference just see how they can handle the things rather how much they know.I am working in world’s biggest company for 3 yrs but they have still not used there own resources rather picking resources from outside and paying them more and taking from reference and finally one day they don’t know how to handle the situation. One more is SAP is not providing more training programs and if they provide it’s too expensive and if somebody is doing good ask them to continue rather warning them.Everyone wants to earn money at the same time pick the resource from your own company who must have willing to work in sap.People just come to sap because they are highly paid for that they are doing so many things,if this continues then SAP will be in trouble. If SAP wish to stand long take people who can handle situation with the cutomer and in future please give training with less costs and then keep them interview that’s my view.Keep it up JIM.
29
AM
To whom it may concern
I think anyone with a straight set of mind…would understand the distinction between WHAT THE NAME SAP- COOK BOOK AND SAP RECRUITER……MEAN to the people in general…., i don’t see any confusion in that regard…….Of-course SAP is a Vast knowledge anyone interested has the right to learn and to practice……..so, SAP-recruiters need to take a step back before accusing someone with a defamation…….
29
AM
I think I will start a company called “College Graduates” and then when someone writes an article saying college graduates will have a hard time finding a job this year I can get my lawyers on them.
C’Mon “Sap Recruiters” get real. Change your name.
29
AM
There is definitely no mention in this video regarding SAP recruiters the organisation but rather the people. It is imperative that we make this distinction in order to avoid any confusion. I am not confused, so please SAP Recruiters, you do not have to be. If the shoe fits, put it on.
29
AM
I think the organisation action is ridiculous!. i agree they need to change their name if they are getting confused because the video didn’t mention any specific company. Thanks Jim for you good work, they don’t have a case
29
AM
Dear Jim;
I deeply regret that “SAP Recruiter” confuse your willingness to share your experience and knowledge with the world of SAP employees. Beyond any law, the use of the word “Recruiting” is free worldwide and in common use. I just hope they really think about it and removed any threat to lock your teaching. I think that is really good and you only have the intension to help train professionals.
Sincerely.
Cristina

Jim
Based on requesting references, etc recruiters ask for all this info because……..
Recruiters try to convert every contact into an “opportunity” for them and their organization.
They are frequently forced by their management and asked if they are providing value to the organization-this is an unfortunate and hideous practice throughout the recruiting industry-they actually try to recruit your references for the consulting opportunity, the job you are seeking or if these folks have a requirement that they can fulfill!!!! They say they do this in order to be able to satisfy the client’s requirements-do not believe them-if you have to use them then do so as a last resort-also try to do some research on them beforehand and limit info you provide other than those that can verify your resume info, etc-
Jim Stewart is one of the best resources around- I have known of Jim for about seven years and he is fantastic-Jim if you need further support please contact me directly
This is ridiculous-Sincerely, MikeB

Dear Jim Stewart
It is the problem with the abbreviation SAP
The word Recruiters or recruiters is nothing. They are only different in capital letter so that you can make reference to any where in your site.
The company “SAP Recruiters” uses such a name as company name. If your uses SAP then of course they will alert you to this.
I am not in your country USA, for extra safety, you should consult your lawyer
All in all, Jim Stewart are not wrong.
29

Hi Jim
You seems to be not wrong.

PM
Jim,
I think what they are trying to do is ridiculous as do the others, but I am afraid you may have a court battle on your hands and the winner will be the one with the deepest pockets. I think your company and service are providing a good service, but that doesn’t help in this possible suit. Good Luck and I hope they choose not to pursue it any further.

hi Jim
I regret about the issue. But it is very simple to understand and nobody can sue anybody regarding this ! ‘Saprecruiters’Inc. need not worry because anybody has the right of using english words ’sap’ ‘recruiters’! Jim have never used the word saprecruiter.inc and the words which denotes a company. Its none of his mistake. Even we can argue that sap itself a trademark word of SAP IMG, Germany and nobody can have it in their company name, right? OR we can argue that ’sap’ means “energy” of “vital body fluid”..eh… huh…???!!
29
PM
Hi Jim,
You are doing a great job by spreading SAP knowledge across the world and enabling people to earn, excel and enjoy their life.
This letter by ‘SAP Recruiters’ gives you a receipt of SAP CookBook’s popularity and professional following.
And by means of publishing this letter, you are indirectly advertising this firm (unless this is your another firm !!! )
BTW, in ‘SAP Recruiters’, abbreviation ‘SAP’ is also registered by http://www.sap.com, it doesn’t mean that by prefixing, suffixing or using another forms of it, nobody can use it.
This is not a solid case for court.
Best Regards,
Pravin

Hi Jim,
You are doing a marvelous job by providing us more information on SAP Technology which is enhanching our skills , please continue with your good work. No body has rights to say that they own the word SAP recuriters, if they have so then there is difference between R and r before they try to do anything. We as your readers are together with you.
29
PM
Hi Jim.
You are doing good job. If SAP Recruiters is having any objection regarding your web site name http://www.saprecruiters.com, because it has the word “recruiters” then they should first change their name because word SAP is registered with SAP AG.
29
PM
Hi Jim,
Undoubtedly you are doing a fantastic job; the accusations are ridiculous and should be doing better investigation. Please put a fight and don’t stop.

Hey there Jim
Dont even give this a second thought. The only reason someone would get so defensive is if they are doing what was mentioned in your video.
I believe you are one of the few who are taking care of us little people in the SAP world. Not many people are out there giving us such guidance and information that you provide.
In essence you are making us consultants aware of SAP recruitment agencies that are only looking to make money of us. This means their pockets are not going to be full of easy money.

Hello Jim,
You`ve just gave a free advertisement to this company. I and my friends never heard about them. Now because of you we know they exist. I think they should pay and thank you after 10 days instead of taking legal action that make no sens. It`s unfare to ask people stop using words that are common. To me it`s like asking someone to never say GOOD NIGHT because i own a MOTEL with the same name. THIS IS RIDICULUS.
Thank you Jim, i hope you`ll keep on doing good job.

Hi Jim,
You are undoubtedly doing a good job by tipping young IT professionals/consultants merging into SAP world. We as a consultant worked so hard i.e. burn the mid night oil to study and finally get into Job. In compare to ours, as world knows 90% of these IT or SAP recruiting company are run & owned by unprofessionals.
Staffs they hire are mostly undergrads OR some time graduate with low pay (but with high commission) and then they get to know about SAP through Google search. Most astonishingly they called them as SAP consultant ( ha! Ha!)
As you rightly said nobody should forward them a reference unless and until one should go through interview process. I hope hiring company is watching this and perhaps they should understand recruiter’s tactic and ask for references after one gets through interview process.
Any way Jim just watch you’re back as you have bigger goal than getting into this small mess. So, I would rather suggest you to say OR can call them ‘’RECRUITERS who are into SAP hiring’’.
God Bless

Jim, I would not worry too much about the lawsuite. If this ever was to get to court, you have the right to utilize the wording sap recruiter in anything you do. You are not selling this as sap recruiter you are selling as sapcookbook. This lawsuite would be ridiculous.
30
AM
Jim!
i think you fall in their trap. This was for them a very wise way to advertise their company. every body has come to know this ridiculous company now due to you Jim.
Acording to me, stop helping them imediatly and remove their name on this marvelous website.
30
AM
Hi. Jim.
You are doing marvelous job under your brand. You have helped with very good stuff for sap consulting aspirants.
I think the “sapRecruiters” or “saprecruiters” one and the same. It is illegal to be registered the same name unless there is a change in ateleast one letter which should be different from the other one.E.g.sapprecruiters or saprecruiter

It is as if a car company puts their name “CAR” and then blaime everyone else for using it.
And plus Jim does not say anything bad about them cos he doesn’t say anything about them. How can they think they are the only only SAP recruiters that ask for 3 references. Commmmon…
30
PM
SAP Recruiters… not a good move, how can you possibly think that you should be the only one able to combine the words “SAP” and “recruiters”.
Jim you are doing a great job for the SAP community.. although I haven’t been able to start the course yet I am sure it will come and I will keep your site in my favorites under…. SAP recruiters…
30

I would think the company SAP would be interested in “SAP Recruiters” using the term SAP in thier URL. I think SAP has a law suit here.
Maybe they could call themselves “Formally SAP Recruiters” now “Currently Unemployed” after the bad press they are getting.
30
PM
I don’t think they have a claim. Therefore they should not be using “SAP” as part of anything. It is not making sence to me…….

I actually think that you are helping the SAP recruiter guys to get the right SAP consultants for the right jobs by some of the advice you provide, obviously unless there is something fishy that they are trying to hide…

@Chloe Kidman
Wrong. He uses the *words*, which isn’t the same thing as the *name*. But then what did you expect when you chose such a generic phrase for your precious brand? Do your lawyers call their firm “Lawyers”, and then get upset everytime someone says that lawyers are blood sucking parasites? That’s an insult to mites, ticks and fleas everywhere.
But I digress.
Oh, one other thing - learn how to use apostrohes properly, mmmkay?

Hi Jim ,
You are absolutely right about these recruiters .They make money for just being middle person.
Some of them are really pain in this world of professional enviornment.
Currently in this world every minute new company is launched with some or other English world. That means we stopped using those word otherwise they will sue us …
If this SAP recruiter company have so much problem then they have to change their name or just chill….

Hi Jim

Hi Jim,
The words in your writtings are adjectives and relevant globally to anyone involving in personnel recruitment of SAP Professionals. You never address your message to Chloe’s organization in aby way — Unless they are the one or amongst those that contacted your former employer and colleagues seeking placement.
I have experienced same thing with recruiters as well in a case that just immediately the guy finished speaking with me on Mobile phone, he then put a cold call through to the IT Manager that he would like to know if there is any need of personnel and wish to fill any gap. Unfortunately for him, I was the person holding brief for the IT Manager that week as he was on vacation, so I picked the call and quietly let him know he has to call back but there is no need as we do not envisage a new project then. He repeatedly call fo over six months without EVER contact me again but the IT Manager and HR.
Chloe should know that you are making a saving grace effort to help people and not attacking their organisation at all- NO CASE
4
PM
These people must be out their minds.
In that case, SAP AG should go after them legally for using the the word SAP. SAP Recruiters can be construed to be a wing of SAP AG (which I don’t is the case here).
I think these people are going under and have nothing better to do.
If they sue you, you have a better chance of winning and then counter suing them for mental harassment.
Good Luck!!!

Dear Jim,
I would suggest you to transfer this letter to a company called “SAP” in order to check what do they think regarding use in the company “SAP Requiters” name the word “SAP …”. That could be the case, real case. When I started my UK based boutique consulting company called SAPIST, I mentioned in any possible web page that “©2009 SAPIST All rights reserved. SAPIST.com. All product names are trademarks of their respective companies. SAPIST.COM and it’s websites are in no way affiliated with SAP AG. SAP, SAP R/3, R/3 software, mySAP, ABAP, BAPI, xApps, SAP NetWeaver, and and any other SAP trademarks are registered trademarks of SAP AG in Germany and in several other countries. Every effort is made to ensure content integrity. Use information on this site at your own risk” and the only relation is that we are SAP consultants (I hope there is no such company name “SAP Consultants” that is going to suit me in the US?).
SAPIST is a profession, sounds to me like ABAPist, the person who uses ABAP code for programming, we use SAP technology platform to provide services to the SAP users, who already pay maitanence fee to SAP.
But “SAP Requiters” …? this is neither the similar to it, nor sounds good to SAP Corporation.
Please let me know regarding future developments in that case to eddie.mogilevsky@sapist.com
Kind regards,
Eddie,
Senior SAP Logistic Functional Consultant
